Seven Ways to Improve Your Career Center

Careers - Road Sign

The career center you have on your corporate website has never been more important than it is right now. An effective career center will do two things: Firstly, it will represent and reinforce your employer brand and establish you as an employer of choice. Secondly, your career center should make qualified candidates want to apply, or if no jobs are available, join your talent network because they want to receive notification of any jobs you have as they become available.

Now more than ever employers have to be competitive when attracting candidates.

A badly designed, or poorly presented website will turn off candidates. You will lose candidates who can’t find out where to apply, or if your application process is arduous or takes too many clicks. You will lose candidates when they can’t find out any information about your company, or the job description is too vague.

If you are planning on improving your career center in 2017, here are seven crucial updates to include:

  1. About Us Show who you are, the type of work that you do, and the type of positions that you hire for.
  2. Company Culture Video. Explain your company values, show off your achievements or innovations. Show employees at work. If you have no video available, a simple employee testimonial page or photos will work.
  3. Links to your available job descriptions – or ATS. After all, that’s why the applicant came to your career page.
  4. Types of positions. Are you hiring interns? College recruiting? Define this on your career center and separate your listings by type using your ATS. If no ATS, use different pages for Intern opportunities, versus full time jobs.
  5. Diversity Statement. Equal Opportunity Employer Statement. Are you a military-friendly employer? Don’t forget to include that on your career page.
  6. Ways to connect with your talent network. This should include your social media links, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and any other networks you use. Include your employment newsletter too.
  7. Accolades. Have you received a “best place to work” or “heart healthy employer” award? Show it off!
